What is International Folk Dance? It's what you see in the videos below. There is a very good verbal description of IFD in Wikipedia.
New Orleans International Folk Dancers (NOIFD) is a new group, with the goal of spreading dance to the younger generations in Metro New Orleans. NOIFD has many members from the venerable Crescent City International Dancers (folkdancers.net/ccid). Most CCID members now are between 50 and 80, fit, and going strong. We are delighted that we have started to attract students.
CCID danced weekly in New Orleans for 40+ years, pre Katrina. They now have a thriving group which meets on Thursdays, 7:30-10pm at the Starlight Ballroom, corner Fairfield and Kent, western Metairie. There will be a mix of easy and hard dances. Have a look at the video below, which shows snippets of a few. At an evening with CCID in Metairie, we do about 40+ dances from a repertoire of several hundred. Below you will find a YouTube video which shows a few of our favorite dances. Below that is a video showing CCID members dancing at the annual Greek fest here.
